How to Know Your True Value

What everybody ought to know about their self-worth

In my youth, we had to try out to play on a Little League baseball team, and if you were not chosen you played in the minors.  At my tryout I played well enough to make a major league team, quite a feat for a small, 8 year old kid!

I was a good player, but when they selected the all-star team I was not chosen — I was crushed.  I felt that I had failed as a ball player!  What a hard lesson to learn as a child; my self-worth had to come from something other than success as all-star.  I have had to learn this same lesson about self-worth repeatedly over the years.  Feelings of inferiority and inadequacy are all too common. Fortunately, the Lord’s perspective has helped me see my true worth (His words are in blue).

The Secret to Becoming a Disciple that Changes the World

Growing through experiences with Jesus

As long as I have known the Lord, my desire has been to be like Him, to truly be His disciple.  It was so exciting to attend John Wimber’s healing conferences years ago and learn that Jesus’ ministry, including praying for the sick, was for all of Jesus’ followers, including me.  Wimber taught that the men Jesus chose to be with Him were examples for all of Jesus’ followers today.

How did three years with Jesus change these ordinary men so dramatically that they went from cowering in fear to boldly sharing the truth of the kingdom of God with power and love everywhere they went?  They were completely dedicated, amazingly courageous, powerfully anointed and overflowing with love.  They exhibited everything that I desire to be, but I don’t feel I’ve arrived.

When I asked him how to become as devoted, courageous, anointed, and loving as the early disciples, here is His response:  (His words to me are in blue)

How God Sees Us

Seeing with fresh eyes

If you are anything like me, you have areas in your life that are not working as well as you’d like, and that are holding you back.  To help me, the Lord said: “What do you see when you look back on the previous year?”  Answering this question helped me see my life from His perspective.  While meditating on this question, one thing He told me was to “get it done!

As I pondered this, I realized what the Lord wanted me to see.  In the past I often worked so hard getting things just right that I took much too long to finish.  Practically, for example, this led to me taking too long to update our Kingdom Partners website or completing my blog posts.  I simply wasn’t getting it done.

Today I share some of what I learned that has helped me to “get it done” (His words to me are in blue).

Keys to More Effective Prayer

What are "effective fervent" prayers?

Hearing the doctor’s words,“Your wife has ovarian cancer,” really increased my commitment to prayer!  My prayers for Norma became more frequent and more intense each day. I am believing the truth found in James 5:16…pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Since I have seen God miraculously heal many people when I prayed, I expected the same healing results for Norma.  Over the past few months He has answered many prayers for her well-being. However, miraculous, direct, supernatural healing has not yet occurred.   Not surprisingly, this causes me to ask many questions. Why are the answers to my prayers so varied?  Why isn’t she healed? How can my prayers be more effective?

Here is some of what the Lord said to me about effective prayer (His words are in blue).

Ways to Sense That Jesus is Always With You

Seeing with the eyes of your heart

I have found that everything goes best when I consciously include the Lord in every area of my life.  However, during those seasons when I am very busy or distracted, it is often too easy to forget His presence, and to not interact regularly with Him.

Seeing the Lord working really helps me to include Him in my life.  While I know some people who are true seers who commonly see very clear visions with their natural eyes, this is not my usual way of seeing.  I tend to see with the eyes of my heart.  When the Lord spoke to me in my journaling about this difference, it helped me to have confidence that I can see Him. The truth about God’s love

Learn what God's love means to you

In this blog I share the two-way journaling of a good friend of ours named Pamela. Here is what the Lord had to say about His love for her.  I was really blessed, and I thought all of us would benefit from reading this expression of God’s love. (God’s words to Pamela are written in blue.)

“Love. I want to talk to you about love.

Love is:

Love is Who I am. The essence of My being is love. Love is not something I do, or grow in, or express only – it is the essence of My character, my being, my DNA – so to speak.  Every thought is love, every word is love, every action is love – only pure love. All of My creativity is love, all of My wisdom is love, all of My expressions are love because it is the composite of all that I am.

The light of My being radiates love. Whenever I give, the gift may vary, but it is always a gift from love.  The precision of My planning, the strategies, are all love.

Even the very atmosphere of heaven radiates love because the energy of My Being, which is love, permeates the atmosphere. When you are here, you will feel love, see love, breathe love, taste love, and be love because you will be transformed into My perfect image and likeness in human form just as your Elder Brother, Jesus.

Love’s intention

That is My full intention for you – to conform you into the image of Jesus Christ. My desire is a race of “love beings”My children, My sons and daughters.

When you know Me, you know love. This is what intimacy is, My child, My daughter Pamela. You are Mine, you are My love child. Get to know yourself as mine – get to know Me as yours.

When we are in the midst of a crisis, or when we are facing challenging issues, it is easy to forget how much God loves us and is concerned about us.  It is in these times that we need to be reminded of who He is and how much He cares for us.  David’s words in Psalm 103 show us how:

Psalm 103:1-6

1 Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

2 Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—

3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,

4 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,

5 who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

6 The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.

This is good medicine: take the time, draw near to God, and remember when the Lord has shown His great love to you personally.  Write these times down, and in times of stress and difficulty review them and praise Him for how much He loves you.

Even better, share them! We can all benefit from hearing examples of God’s great love for us.

What to do in times of hardship and stress

The Power of choosing to trust God

What do you do when life gets tough, when the daily challenges seem overwhelming, and when you feel things are out of your control?

I know the feelings that rise up in such circumstances, I’ve been there!  I’ve had to face major challenges in my own life, where the outcomes looked horrible. In these times, when my thoughts and the lies began to become overwhelming, I was forced to make important choices.  How should I respond? Where can I turn? Will I become fearful, have a “pity party,” or will I choose to trust the Lord?

Learning how to trust God in the school of life

How you know your trust is increasing

My wife’s unexpected diagnosis of advanced ovarian cancer several months ago has challenged my faith like never before.  Over a three week period we went from normal life to hospital tests and diagnosis, major surgery, and chemotherapy.  What an opportunity for the devil to attack our trust in God! It has been a difficult trial, a huge test, and an incredible time for learning to trust God in new and deeper ways.

How to Find Freedom From Anxious Thoughts

Overcome fear by living in My presence

Recently, I have had to face a variety of new challenges.  I know that God is with me and at work in all of this, but my thought life still has been affected at times.  When I went to the Lord about these negative thoughts and emotions he shared the following (His words are in blue):
