Ways to Sense That Jesus is Always With You

Seeing with the eyes of your heart

I have found that everything goes best when I consciously include the Lord in every area of my life.  However, during those seasons when I am very busy or distracted, it is often too easy to forget His presence, and to not interact regularly with Him.

Seeing the Lord working really helps me to include Him in my life.  While I know some people who are true seers who commonly see very clear visions with their natural eyes, this is not my usual way of seeing.  I tend to see with the eyes of my heart.  When the Lord spoke to me in my journaling about this difference, it helped me to have confidence that I can see Him. (His words are in blue).

“To see Me, to know Me, and to walk with Me are noble desires. This is what I desire for you.  Keep your heart and your mind centered on Me and these desires will be yours.

The Lord then explained the different ways we can see Him.  He contrasted supernatural visions that we can see with our natural eyes with seeing in the spiritual realm using our other senses and the “eyes of our heart.”

Ways we can see Jesus’ involvement in every area of our lives

Seeing in the spirit realm is more than just using your spiritual eyesight

Jesus explained the different ways we can see Him.  First He talked about natural visions:

Vision is clear and irrefutable. When you see with your eyes, it is because I am making a presentation of Myself and My nature that is to be long-standing.  Whether it is a direct image of Me or the actions of My presence, it is for you to know deeply.

Next the Lord shared about how how important it is to use our other senses as well:

However, more often I reveal Myself and the results of My presence using other senses.  You can feel Me, hear Me, even smell My life and presence.  You may feel My presence by wind, heat, cold, pressure, tingling–a myriad of sensations that activate your senses.

Because you are such a visual being, these senses are often overlooked and ignored.  Yet if you pay attention to them, you will see that I am present and right at your side always.  Train these senses to see!  That means pay attention and acknowledge My presence experienced through these senses.

Seeing Jesus with the eyes of your heart

Then He shared about how to see with the eyes of our heart:

Another way you see Me is through your mind’s eye.  In the Bible this is called the eyes of your heart, for the eyes of your heart see and hear.  You can see Me by hearing My words as thoughts in your mind.  These thoughts give you a mental image of Me, My presence, and My communication with you.

Seeing with the eyes of your heart can be clearer and deeper than actually sight.  With the eyes of your heart you can see many facets simultaneously. With the eyes of your heart you “see” My presence and My very thoughts and emotions.

When you see with the eyes of your heart you know more and understand more.  The depth of your seeing is enhanced a thousandfold by the breadth of what you see in your mind’s eye, in the eyes of your heart.

Seeing Jesus releases faith

Lastly, the Lord compared the faith released through natural visions with faith that comes from seeing with the eyes of our hearts:

Vision requires less faith than seeing with the eyes of your heart.  For with visions you know what you see.  However, when you see in your mind’s eye (with the eyes of your heart), when you receive My thoughts, you have to believe that it’s Me.  This is faith in action.

This pleases Me, for it reveals your heart.  I am pleased when you see with the eyes of your heart and act on what you see because this proves your heart for Me.  So receive My input in all ways, but especially in your heart.

I know that it is sometimes very hard to see the Lord and to discern His presence.  What has helped me is to consciously look for Jesus in the midst of my daily life with the expectation that He is, in fact, right there with me.  This expectation is confirmed by His scriptural promises to us (see Gen 31:6, Deut 31:6, 1 Chron 28:20, Matt 28:20, Phil 4:6-7 and Heb 13:5).

I encourage you to practice looking with expectation; I know that you will be blessed.  I welcome your thoughts and experiences as you see Him working in your life.

  1. Great article. It took me awhile to learn how it takes more faith to see with the mind’s eye, and we know that faith pleases God. Thanks for explaining that here.
